Threatened premature labour

The likelihood of premature labour becomes the greater the more of the following signs can be identified:
  1. regular uterine contractions less than 10 minutes apart
  2. the contractions are painful
  3. the cervix is ripe and at least 1–2 cm dilated
  4. the cervix is shortened or effaced
  5. the presenting part of the foetus has descended to the spinous stage or even lower
  6. bulging of foetal membranes is observed
  7. discharge of mixed blood and mucus is seen.
